This year has seen some very high profile hacking of large corporations, most recently the Yahoo email hacking of over 1 billion accounts from back in 2013 that has only been publicised this week. We now ask how many other people's accounts with other companies have been compromised but not yet made aware of the breach in security?
We are a digital company in Bucks that support IT for numerous businesses in the area and we like to ensure their data is protected. Nowadays people get frustrated at the number of passwords they must remember, but here are IO42 we don't think it should be that challenging. There is nothing wrong with having the same word, but just keep 2 or 3 versions of a long word with symbol characters as recent hack tests have found that the longer the word the better.
We wrote a blog article regarding password security, but think adoption of the longer the better will at least give you some future proofing of your data. Tips for passwords would be that over 10 characters with symbols for anything you use to log in online would be good so if you like water you could use 5wimminG%! (see what we did there!) Change the characters for different sites or use the @ symbol in front of your long password to remember it is your email password, so @5wimming%! Could work. Our best advice is use something that you will remember, but change it up. Remember that the hackers change their tactics, which means you need to change yours!
